UAN Aadhaar Liaison: extended deadline to file employee contact information with EPFO

Employers are required to file the ECR online with EPFO on a monthly basis containing details of salaries and membership dues, including basic member details.

If your Universal Account Number (UAN) is not yet seeded with Aadhaar, it is best to complete the process with your employer. The Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the completion date of the Aadhaar seed and audit completion with UAN until November 30, 2021. As of December 1, 2021, it has Employers were asked to only file electronic challan declarations (ECRs) for employees where the Aadhaar verification with UAN is complete.

In the back-end, EPFO and your employer facilitate transfers and withdrawals via the ECR channel. Electronic Challan Declarations (ECRs) must be filed by the employer advising EPFO of the employee’s contact information. Employers are required to file the ECR online with EPFO on a monthly basis containing details of salaries and membership dues, including basic member details.

It is important to note that the ECR should only be filed for employees who have their Aadhaar number seeded with UAN.

Previously, the PF rule was supposed to be implemented from June 1, 2021, which was later extended to September 1, 2021. Now, be sure to complete the seeding of the Aadhaar number with the Universal Account Number (UAN ) on the current date. until November 30, 2021.

In September 2021, the EPFO extended the time limit for Aadhaar’s connection with the UAN until December 31, 2021 for establishments in the North-East and certain other establishments.

Making a provident fund transfer (PF) when changing jobs or withdrawing PF money when leaving a job becomes easier and takes less time if your Aadhaar number is seeded with the universal account number ( UAN).

There are 3 ways to bind UAN to Aadhaar, provided the UAN is active:

a. Using the UMANG application

b. Use of biometric identifiers on EPFO’s e-KYC portal

vs. Using OTP verification on EPFO’s e-KYC portal

To check the status or download KYC documents, you can log into the EPFO employee portal. If seeded, the status will display as approved.

As an employee, if you have not yet seeded Aadhaar with UAN, start the process to bind them. However, simply uploading KYC documents with a valid UAN will not help. Make sure it is linked to your employer. Ask your Accounting or HR department to confirm this. Keep track of and follow up with the employer if seeding remains incomplete even after a few days of uploading documents. Your employer will not be able to communicate and notify your wages, PF details with EPFO, if they remain unseeded until November 30, 2021.

EPFO has already put in place several measures to reduce claims settlement times. By linking UAN to Aadhaar, the claims settlement process becomes easier and takes much less time.
