Azad Maidan Police in Mumbai have filed a complaint against the sons of Union Minister Narayan Rane, Nitesh Rane and Nilesh Rane, for allegedly linking the name of Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar to fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, police said.
The matter was reported on the basis of a complaint registered on Saturday by NCP leader Suraj Chavan. A senior police officer said they took Chavan’s statement and registered the case. Further investigation is underway, he added.
The case was registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 153 (gratuitous provocation with intent to cause a riot), 499 (libel) and 500 (sentence for libel).
Speaking at a BJP rally in Azad Maidan, Nitesh Rane accused Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik of dealing with Dawood Ibrahim and demanded Malik’s resignation. He also said that Malik is not a saint and asked why the government did not ask for his resignation.
Rane also criticized NCP leader Sharad Pawar, who questioned why Pawar had not called for Malik’s resignation. He also questioned Pawar’s connection to Dawood Ibrahim and said he suspected Pawar to be Dawood’s man in Maharashtra.
Reacting to the latest, Nitesh Rane, while speaking to reporters, said they would advise the police on what to do if a breach was recorded. Rane asked what was wrong with what he said? He explained that he sided with the Hindutva without causing a riot. Is it a mistake to side with Hindutva so they are ready to make the same mistake 100 times?
He further added that Pawar alleged that Malik was related to Dawood Ibrahim because Malik was from the Muslim community. Rane said he just wondered if Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh was asked to resign because he is a Hindu? They just tried to address the issue raised by Pawar. Rane asked where the issue of instigating the riots came up here?
The BJP MP said he believes there should be no riots between Hindus and Muslims in the country. He added that being “Hindutvavadis”, they would not let Hindus face injustice.
